As an area of downtown Amherst, Getzville offers a wide range of dining and entertainment options to both residents and visitors. Residents also take advantage of the business and recreation of the larger Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area, often called Buffalo-Niagara.

Industry in Buffalo-Niagara has historically centered on manufacturing, especially steel. Today, steel manufacturing continues to account for a fair share of employment, but the largest manufacturing industry in the area is now transportation equipment and component parts.
