Online Teacher Licensure Degree Programs

Any teacher who has successfully passed the basic competency tests in reading, writing, and teaching is eligible for licensure in this growing field. It's often as ongoing process, since developments in education happen frequently. In an age where computer technology and increased psychological analysis have helped educators refine their academic approaches, it's crucial for you to stay up-to-date.

Although a bachelor's degree is usually the minimum required for entry (especially in private schools), a master's degree or higher is often preferred, given the wide range of responsibilities associated with teaching in today's school system. Background in curriculum development, behavioral management, and counseling are increasingly useful as well.

Some of the perks associated with teacher licensure include:
  • Attractive salaries
  • Tenure which provides job security
  • Reimbursement for higher education
  • Career growth - teachers can become administrators or supervisors
  • Generous benefits including medical insurance and Employee Assistance Programs
  • Extended vacations
Private schools do not always insist that their teachers be licensed, but public schools employ only those who have fulfilled the eligibility criteria dictated by individual states. Future employment prospects for licensed teachers are expected to grow by 9% to17%, while pre-school teachers could find their numbers increasing by more than 27%.
